Nibbler is an arcade video game developed and published by Rock-Ola Mfg. Corp in 1982:
It’s a maze game in wich you control a snake.
The player controls a serpent that eat dots. With each dot eaten, the snake’s tail grows longer and it’s difficoult to manage the snake.
A life is lost under only two conditions: if the snake’s head collides with any part of its own body, or if the on-screen timer runs out before the maze is cleared..
The challenge in Nibbler is structured across 32 distinct maze layouts. After a player successfully clears these 32 waves, the mazes begin to repeat, but with different color palettes and, most importantly, a relentless increase in the snake’s movement speed.
This cycle continues until wave 99, after which the game enters an infinite loop, repeating waves 80 through 99 for any player skilled and determined enough to reach that point. This structure ensures that while the patterns are learnable, the execution becomes a test of pure reflexes and endurance.
It’s perfectly emulated by MAME.
